How much will it cost for me to replace my old boiler with a new condensing boiler & what work is involved?
I know that the old boiler will be replaced with the new one but what happens with the hot water storage cylinder and what else is involved if anything?

cost is dependant on what your requirements are do you have one or two bathrooms have you any controls fitted to your system .just call all your local corgi installers and ask for a quote but if all you want is a saving on your running cost first look at replacing your cylinder.
Condensing boilers cost more than non condensing types but make up that difference in a few years through the savings on your gas bill. They are much more economical to run over the lifetime of the boiler.
The only significant difference with a condensing boiler is that it will need some kind of drain spout or pipe fitting to drain away the condensed fluid, other than that it is pretty much a direct replacement for an existing non condensing boiler.
The saving made on energy bills will slowly pay for cost of new boiler, i just had new one fitted and my energy bill has decreased big time. Don’t know exactly what it cost though as private tenancy. We’ve just had an old boiler replaced with a condensing one and it cost us £2000. We had an original quote for £1500 but because of it’s position the flue had to go through the roof which costs more as it’s not standard. We did have quotes for up to £3000 though so it’s worth shopping around.
The immersion heater (Storage Cylinder) will be removed completely and you won’t need your water tank in the loft either – the plumbers will remove the cylinder but usually leave behind the water tank.
Some plumbers will tell you that you will need a whole new system including radiators etc because of the pressure created by your new boiler – I’m not sure that this is strictly true. The boiler we have just replaced is connected to a radiator system which is around 40 years old and it works fine.

In order for the plumber to install a condensing boiler they will have to run new pipes, for hot/cold water, heating, cold water feed, 22mm gas pipe.
This will all then be linked up to your existing radiators.
If you’re radiators are old then it would be more efficient to have them replaced as well.
The cold water tank in the loft and the hot water storage tank will be ripped out and the plumber will take it down to the scrappy for £50.00. so make sure he does not charge you to dispose of it, if he does say that you will do it.
Ideally the condensing boiler will be on an outside wall for the flue and the overflow pipe.
