Do not postpone, get gas central heating this winter

We should all prepare for the winter months as the weather gets colder and the days shorter by having good central heating in our homes. There’s nothing cosier than a warm room while a blizzard rages outside, and this warmth is best provided by a sturdy and efficient gas central heating system.

In general, two types of central heating systems exist, one that’s pumped and the other with a vented system; but a central heating boiler, central heating radiator and pipework make up the constituents of most heaters.

Pumped systems are more frequent, they have a feed and an expansion tank, another hot water tank is the core of the system, it stores hot water as it heats up and then uses the pipes to transfer heat to the heating radiators. Due to heat, the water in the tank expands and fills it up.

The second type of heater is composed of a sealed system without a central component that is part of the heating radiator. Water tanks are not required here because it is a closed system. A sealed central heating system gets rid of the risk of water leakage, airlock formation and pipe freeze (a common problem in the harsh winters of countries like Russia).

Tell me why I should get central heating?.

The major advantage of gas central heating is that the home or work space can be quickly, uniformly and efficiently heated without compromising the quality of air in your surroundings. Electric fires, gas and storage heaters were the types used in the old days. However, these were not ideal as they emitted an odour and affected the condition of the air, drying it out.

These air quality issues were eliminated by central heating; but such a desirable environment can be ensured only by periodic servicing of the heating system to keep it running efficiently and safely. Spring and summer often sees these systems shut down and completely ignored, only to be abruptly switched on when a chilly wind blows in. Instead, as the weather begins to change, you should use it by degrees in order to spot any problems and give you time to call an heating plumber before wintertime.

Airborne dust and other contaminants can also seep into the gas central heating system, necessitating periodic drainage and cleaning. For draining the system just open the valve and keep a bucket below it for water collection, ensure that water doesn’t enter the system when it is being drained.

Popularly used are pumped systems which comprise of a main feed and expansion water tank that heats up and transmits the heat through pipework to secondary heaters (central heating radiators). Provision is made for water to be filled in the expansion tank tank as well as for expansion of the heated water. In contrast, Sealed systems eliminate this primary water tank section. It’s basically closed, so there is really no need for any water tanks and… Read the...

The two basic types of gas central heating systems are called pumped and vented, both of which are made up of a heating boiler, central heating radiators and usually copper pipework. Pumped systems are probably the more common ones and their main part is a feed expansion tank which acts as the centre core by heating up itself first to subsequently warm up the heaters via the pipes. The expansion tank does allow for any water expansion that may occur. The vented system on the other hand is a sealed system where there is no core… Read the rest of this >>>...
