Various types of Gas Central Heating Systems are available in the central heating market. These systems for the most part are made up of a number of central heating radiators, pipework and of course a gas central heating boiler.

Two kinds of Gas Central Heating Systems are mainly in use; pumped/vented and sealed systems.
Pumped/vented systems are the ones that many homes have and they have the most components resulting in potentially higher maintenance costs. An expansion tank is present in a pumped heating system. The hot water storage tank provides your home with warm water and brings heat to the central heating radiators. Water expands when heated; this expansion is accommodated in a feed-expansion tank. It is normally placed at the highest place of the house like the attic area, taking up space. It serves a dual purpose by heating the house and also supplying heated water.
For many years now, pumped/vented systems have been the norm for Gas Central Heating.
A Sealed Gas Central Heating System is a relatively modern technology, and is being adopted by many homeowners today. As the name suggests, sealed system is a closed system; no tank is required in this system. There are no tanks or pipework in the loft, the whole system is sealed, its unvented, which has its benefits:.
- As there are no pipes, they cannot freeze up in the attic.
- There won’t be any repair work on the tank or pipes which will be in the attic for a pumped/vented system.
- The chance of a leaking water tank is all together absent.
- As there are no open vents, air cannot enter into the system and so the risk of corrosion, air locks and sludge is drastically reduced.
- The main water pressure can easily be used to flush out a Sealed system for easy maintenance.
A sealed Central Heating System is a system with the required controls and safety equipment all contained in one. The mains water supplies the water required for the sealed Gas Central Heating system. The main water supply feeds the system immediately under pressure.
The system also has a pressure vessel which contains compressed gas, it controls the variations in pressure and a diaphragm is used to separate it from the sealed system. The pressure in a sealed Gas Central Heating System is controlled by a valve that lets water out if the pressure becomes too high and opens to refill the system with water if the pressure gets too low.
As compared to other heating systems, Central Heating systems are cheaper to run. They also provide you with complete control which is much more than other heating systems can say about themselves.
